As the week starts, you may have another project around the house to tackle. Here at Tolman, we always have ongoing projects to keep us busy. One past project of ours is this closet above, made by one of our experienced carpenters. Removing old wire racks and hangers is a great way to update any closet. Today, we’re looking at this closet and how the design perfectly updates the area.


Shelving

Looking at the front of the closet, you'll see that our carpenter started by creating shelving units on each side. These shelves span from floor to ceiling, allowing for additional space. Floor-to-ceiling shelving is an easy closet solution that lets you store just about anything. You can store folded clothes (as we see above) or shoes, hats, and even scarves. You won’t find floor-to-ceiling storage in most rooms, which is what makes this closet so special. If the homeowner wants to downsize their wardrobe, the shelves can even be used as a bookcase.


Cubbies

 Inside the closet is where the real magic happens, and seeing the final result makes your renovation worth it. Besides the hangers, we have custom-built cubbies. Cubbies or drawers are an absolute must for any closet makeover. Of course, like shelves, they can store various items in your wardrobe arsenal. These cubbies can be styled even more by using baskets, that way no one sees your unfolded clothes. Across and behind the cubbies, we have closet rods to hang your freshly ironed clothes.


Hangers

Everyone has rods in their closet to hang clothes. After all, that's what makes a closet a closet. Underneath the clothes rack in the far back is a shoe rack, which can be swapped for another clothing rod for additional space. In the back, clothes hooks were also installed on the wall to hang coats/jackets. Not pictured is the space on the right side of the closet, this space houses more clothes rods. Without a doubt, the designer of this closet did an excellent job of making the design fit the home’s aesthetics and integrating it seamlessly.


The shelving, hangers, and cubbies wouldn’t mesh so well with the home without the white paint. Fresh paint will make any room instantly updated. Insulate A properly insulated home is a big component of staying warm in the cold winter ahead. Last year, Worcester’s coldest temperature was recorded at -13 degrees! Window treatments like sealing film and other weather-stripping products can help seal window drafts. Inspect your exterior doors for air drafts that can be sealed with caulk. Some windows are too old to be efficient and, in that case, we at Tolman can install new energy-efficient and insulated windows in your home. Homes can also be so old that the insulation inside needs to be replaced. This happens when the insulation no longer meets the current R-value grade for homes.
